In our modern world, with a plethora of sugary drinks, and stimulants which provide no benefit to the human body, what is evident and logical is for us as a species is to drink water, ALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
The human body is made up of 70% water, and when we work out, sweat, we lose water, hence needing to be re-hydrated, and when we consume fatty, high salt, processed, satured foods with little to no water content, it requires us to drink even more water, to replenish the organs that would otherwise draw water from more natural foods, like vegetables and fruit in their raw form. So, here are 3 quick tips to keep you on track to staying hydrated for optimal health.
- KEEP WATER ACCESSIBLE
If you’re using a water filter (highly recommended) or buying bottled water (we encourage buying water in GLASS, not plastic bottles) and keep them in stored in cupboards at room temperature. Whenever you go to the gym or do any kind of workout, always have water nearby, so you can reach for it. On your way out the door to work, grab a bottle, or before any trip that will be 30 minutes or longer, grab a bottle of water. When you’re at home, grab a bottle or glass of water, preferably taking in up to 4-8 glasses of water in a 6 hour period.
Whenever you’re sitting watching TV or a movie, keep the bottle in your hand with the lid off. Take little sips until the bottle is empty. Making water easily accessible to you, is a win.
- ADD LEMON OR LIME OR MINT…
Water in its cleanest form is refreshing, hydrating, and thirst-quenching. For added taste, you can add lime or lemon to your water, which is also very beneficial for alkalizing the body and assisting the liver to detox. Adding the mint herb provides a refreshing burst. Adding other slices of fruits such as oranges, pineapple or watermelon adds a natural and subtle sweetness. Be mindful that the objective is to drink water clean with no additives, so limit fruit to one or two slices.
- CHOOSE WATER OVER OTHER DRINKS
Whenever you eat out, always choose to have a glass or glass bottle of water in addition to your meal, being mindful to aim to drink 15min-20min before or after your meal. If you are drinking alcohol, this will dehydrate your organs including your skin, which is even more reason to either replace alcohol and sugary drinks with water or have water in addition to those drinks of choice. After some time, you will appreciate water being an essential part of your life-force and craving your old drinks will be a thing of the past.
Choose life, choose more water.
